October 2026
Hello friends of South Pas Active! From A Week Without Driving to a citywide kids bike rodeo, October is an active transit happy month!
WEEK WITHOUT DRIVING: OCT. 1–8
Not everyone drives, and not everyone has reliable access to a car. The goal of Week Without Driving isn’t for everyone to stop driving, but to better understand what our streets and transportation system feel like when driving isn’t an option.
Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stories on instagram from people in and around South Pasadena about how they get around without a car: what works, what’s difficult, and what could make it easier.
We’d love to see your experience too. Try a car-free trip this week and tag @southpasactive and #weekwithoutdriving in your commutes and adventures.
NATIONAL WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY
National Walk & Roll to School Day is Wednesday, October 7th. Arroyo Vista and Marengo Elementaries are celebrating with a special bike bus on Tuesday, Oct 6th, where they will be joined by the SPPD.
October the 7th is also California Clean Air Day!
PASADENA IS PLANNING FOR WALKING + BIKING
Our neighbors to the north are beginning work on a new Citywide Active Transportation Plan.
Pasadena is currently asking for community input on where improvements are needed. If you spend time walking or biking in Pasadena, this is a great opportunity to weigh in. Thanks to our friends at Pasadena Complete Streets for their advocacy with the city on this project!
PEDALPALOOZA IS BACK! OCT. 24
The 2nd Annual Pedalpalooza is coming back to Arroyo Vista on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2–5 PM!
This citywide kids’ bike rodeo is all about building confidence and having fun on bikes. Kids can practice their riding skills on three different courses, make bike-related crafts, visit the tune-up station, and more.
It’s open to families from all South Pasadena schools. Bring your bike and helmet and come ride with us!
Saturday, Oct. 24, 2-5PM, Arroyo Vista Elementary
MISSION + PASADENA + ARROYO INTERSECTION MEETING - OCT. 5
South Pasadena is holding a community meeting about proposed safety improvements at the complicated Mission Street/Pasadena Avenue and Mission Street/Arroyo Drive intersections.
Many know this to be a particularly dangerous intersection, in particular for pedestrians. We encourage you to attend and share your experience.
