Hello South Pas Active friends,
We have been working to make South Pasadena's streets safer and more accessible by advocating for traffic calming measures, lower speed limits, and thoughtful street redesigns that prioritize pedestrians and cyclists. Our October 2025 newsletter includes updates on advocacy related to bulb outs, the week without driving, as well as upcoming events, such as Pedalpalooza.

Speed limit reduction campaign update
Bike valet and other community activity
Thanks to your overwhelming support, the South Pasadena City Council unanimously voted to preserve bulb-outs along Fair Oaks Avenue. This decision came after the Public Works Commission recommended keeping these vital safety features in place. The decision was covered in the South Pasadena Review.
As we know, bulb-outs are proven to:
Improve visibility between drivers and pedestrians,
Reduce the number of traffic collisions at intersections, and
Calm vehicular traffic.
This result is the perfect outcome for a Council meeting held during the Week Without Driving. Thanks to all who attended the meeting or participated in WWD 2025, especially the South Pasadena Progressives and South Pasadena Tenants Union. Check out our highlights of stories from South Pasadenans who participated in WWD 2025.
Related news: This is just the beginning! We'll continue advocating for these basic pedestrian safety features as the city moves forward with its redesign of Fremont, Huntington, and other major arteries. The city approved an engineering team to create construction-ready plans for these redesigns. You can read more about these developments in LA Streetsblog.
We'll be pushing the city to prioritize the community-driven vision produced by Toole Design Group. Stay tuned for more information as the plan develops—your voice will be crucial in this process.
Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign to reduce speed limits in South Pasadena! We've updated our spreadsheet based on community feedback and are currently asking city staff to prioritize speed limit reductions near schools. South Pasadena city staff have asked SPUSD for a list of their priorities and the city is reviewing them. Has your school asked to make streets safer for our children, the most vulnerable residents?
