Great news from the City Council meetings on May 6th and June 3rd: thanks to the efforts of many of you receiving this email, along with other cyclists and residents across South Pasadena, the City Council unanimously voted to approve safe access for all users of the Fremont and Huntington Corridors. Next, the project will move into design and then construction.
We are thankful for the Council's decision, and we know they deliberated carefully and weighed many trade-offs. One important trade-off is parking: some users of this corridor will be displaced from the on-street parking. Engineering firm Kimley-Horn surveyed the region and found that adjacent streets can accommodate those vehicles and that private parking spaces can accommodate more. Still, we have asked the city to research a Joint Use Agreement with the school district to allow overnight parking at South Pasadena High School. This approach has been used in other cities to make better use of limited space. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to us.
This outcome reflects where our city is headed and your efforts. Thank you for making your voice heard!
Have you heard about our city's plans to change its storm water management? South Pasadena is partnering with Pasadena to use Measure W grant funding to capture and clean its storm water. If you are interested in learning more — or just enjoying a nice ride to the Arroyo with your neighbors — join us on Sunday morning.
On Sunday, June 7, we are partnering with Active SGV for the Arroyo Adventure Ride and Roam, a family-friendly ride exploring existing and proposed water capture and reuse projects along the Arroyo Seco. The ride will include approximately 3 miles of bicycling, some hills, and about ½ mile of walking.
